Legal Lean Grape Syrup
Lean, also known as purple drank, or oil, and several other names, is a recreational drug beverage, prepared by mixing prescribed cough or cold syrup with a soft drink. The beverage originated in Houston, Texas, and is popular among the hip hop culture or those who reside in the southern United States.
What is lean, purple drink or syrup?
Lean is the street name for a drink of cough syrup mixed with soda, usually Sprite. Sometimes sweets are also added for the extra sweet taste. It is also called purple drink, purp, sizzurp or syrup.
The effects are caused by codeine and promethazine. Codeine is an opiate (derived from morphine). Codeine has an anesthetic effect and can slow down certain bodily functions, including breathing. This is also the reason why in low doses it can suppress the cough during a cold. In high doses this can lead to dangerous situations, such as respiratory arrest.
Promethazine is an antihistamine. It is used against allergies, as well as to suppress nausea and to drowsiness. The effect of promethazine against cough has not been proven. It could help with cough that is caused by an allergy. It also makes you drowsy, so it can help you fall asleep with a tickly cough.
Usage and Effects
It is a cough syrup containing the substances codeine and promethazine. The substances can also be taken separately from each other, but will then not have the same effect. According to users, it mainly concerns the combination of these substances. These substances have little effect in low doses. So when you use small amounts against the cough with a cold, you will not notice it much.
If you use more of it, you will get effects similar to other narcotics. Some users report that the effect is similar to alcohol , others find the effect more similar to benzodiazepines (sleeping pills and tranquilizers). The dosage required to achieve an effect varies from person to person and also depends on the amount of codeine and promethazine added.
You become lethargic and you feel comfortable and you feel like everything is slowing down. Users also report mild euphoric feelings and may become slightly dissociated from their bodies. It is often combined with cannabis or other substances. It is also sometimes combined with alcohol, although many users are cautious about this because of the high risks of this combination.
Legal Lean Grape Syrup Risks
Codeine is an opiate (derivative of the opium) and has a narcotic effect on the body. In large amounts, you can experience hallucinations, pass out or even have a respiratory arrest. This risk is especially increased in combination with promethazine and possibly other substances such as alcohol. Lean has also led to several overdoses in the US, resulting in death.
Codeine is also addictive. At some point you may need more and more to achieve the same effect. You can also get withdrawal symptoms when you want to stop taking it. Withdrawal symptoms can be very similar to those of other opiates such as heroin.
Drinking large amounts of lean can also damage your organs, eventually leading to major problems such as kidney or liver failure.
